Irmela Erckenbrecht

Irmela Erckenbrecht (* 1958 in Kassel ) is a German writer and book translator.

Life

Irmela Erckenbrecht grew up in Bad Emstal and studied English and social sciences in Göttingen and Bristol . She has been a freelance literary translator since 1984. She translates nonfiction and children's books, but above all literary works from Great Britain, Ireland and North America, including the authors Avery Corman , Margaret Drabble , Michael Frayn , Edna O'Brien , Vita Sackville-West and Jane Smiley . In 1995, in recognition of her translation work, she received the literary scholarship of the State of Lower Saxony. Since 1996 Irmela Erckenbrecht has also been the author of successful cookery and gardening books. Her books on the herb spiral, translated into several languages, are fundamental . She is an active member of the BücherFrauen eV - Women in Publishing and heads the Göttingen regional group of the Vegetarian Union Germany (VEBU) . Irmela Erckenbrecht lives in Nörten-Hardenberg near Göttingen.
