Irmela Schautz

Irmela Schautz (* 1973 in Ravensburg ) is a German graphic designer and illustrator . She illustrates books for children and young people, popular science non-fiction, biographies, books of poetry and gift and creative books.

Career

Irmela Schautz studied painting and graphics at the State Art Academy in Münster with Udo Scheel and stage and costume design at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart with Jürgen Rose and Martin Zehetgruber . From 1996 to 1998 she worked as a scientific draftsman at the Westphalian State Museum for Archeology in Münster.

Schautz has been working as a freelance illustrator since 2005. Books illustrated by her made it onto the Spiegel bestseller list, the shortlist of the World Illustrators Award , the Global Illustrators Award and among the “Most Beautiful Books in Germany”. Irmela Schautz has been teaching at the Academy for Illustration and Design in Berlin since 2012. In 2012 she and three colleagues founded the first “Long Night of Illustration” in Berlin. She is a member of the Illustratoren Organization (IO), the professional association of German-speaking illustrators. Schautz lives and works in Berlin .
