The Wiener Straße is a street in the Upper Austrian capital Linz . It runs from the districts of Waldegg and Lustenau via Kleinmünchen to Ebelsberg and was named after the city of Vienna as a directional designation.
history
Until 1968 the street was called Wiener Reichsstraße, since then Wiener Straße. Before the building of the music theater on the Blumau, it was the continuation of the country road to the south, the tram ran continuously above ground. Until 1937 there was a level crossing here, then an underpass was built. Until it was discontinued in 1974, the Florianerbahn ran from Ebelsberg along Wiener Straße to Pichling.
Location and characteristics
The approximately 10 kilometer long road runs south and then south-east from Bahnhofstrasse at the music theater to the city limits of St. Florian and Asten , where it continues on their municipal area. It crosses under the Westbahn and the Mühlkreis Autobahn and crosses the Traun . It is the longest street in Linz. Large sections of the road are part of the B1 . In the area between Bulgariplatz and Neue Welt, Wiener Straße is a one-way street into the city (the counterpart out of town is Wankmüllerhof and Kremplstraße). The street is first used by tram lines 1 and 2 from the Union junction, then above ground from Bulgariplatz to Kremsmünsterer Straße and between Ennsfeldstraße and Traundorfer Straße, and between Zeppelinstraße and Traundorfer Straße also by bus lines 11 and 19, with numerous trams - and there are bus stops along Wiener Straße.
