Irving Gertz

Irving Gertz (born May 19, 1915 in Providence , Rhode Island , † November 14, 2008 in Los Angeles ) was an American film composer , who mainly worked on science fiction and horror - B-movies of the 1950s and 1960s Years was known.

Life

Gertz attended the Providence College of Music and learned the clarinet , piano , double bass and tuba . He later took lessons from the composer and music theorist Walter Piston . In 1938 he was signed by Columbia Pictures , but then joined the US Army for five years after the outbreak of World War II . After the end of the war he took further lessons from Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and from 1947 wrote his first music for Columbia films. After a brief stint at NBC Radio , he moved to Universal Studios in the leading 1950s , where he was under contract until the late 1950s. In 1960 he moved to 20th Century Fox . In 1966 he was as a substitute in a foiled colleagues at Warner Bros. for Daffy Duck - Cartoons Daffy Rents committed, this was his only work on an animated film. In 1968 Gertz retired, by which time he had music for over 200 films (including the Jack Arnold classics Danger from Outer Space and The Incredible Story of Mister C. ) and television series such as The Seaview - In a Secret Mission and Invasion Written by Vega , although he was often not mentioned in the credits.
