Iryna Nafranowitsch ( Belarusian Ірына Нафрановіч , Russian Ирина Нафранович ; * May 1, 1984 ) is a former Belarusian biathlete and former cross-country skier .
Iryna Nafranowitsch was a student at Беларускі дзяржаўны ўнівэрсытэт фізычнай культуры (Belarusian State University of Physical Culture) in Minsk . She started her career as a cross-country skier. She made her international debut at the 2002 Junior World Championships in Schonach , where she was 38th in the 5-kilometer freestyle and the 15-kilometer classic race. In the freestyle sprint, the Belarusian was 48. A year later, she took part in the 2003 Winter Universiade in Tarvisio and was 27th in the 5-kilometer classic. In the following years, Nafranowitsch started mostly in lower-class races such as the Continental and Marathon Cups and FIS Run. In December 2004, she made her debut in the cross-country skiing world cup in a classic sprint in Asiago , which she finished in 50th. She reached a podium as third in the 55 km race in Oberammergau as part of the Cross-Country Marathon Cup in early February 2005. In January 2007, Nafranowitsch again took part in the Winter Universiade . In Pragelato she won the bronze medal over the 5-kilometer classic behind Justyna Kowalczyk and Alena Procházková and was 15th in the pursuit. The Nordic World Ski Championships in Sapporo followed in 2007 . Nafranowitsch was 64th in the classic sprint, 37th in the 30-kilometer mass start and did not finish in the pursuit race. In 2009 the Belarusian took part in another Universiade and came in 35th place in Yabuli over the 5-kilometer freestyle and was ninth in the relay. She was also represented in international races in the 2009/2010 season, including third places in the freestyle sprint in Kharkiv , a competition of the Eastern Europe Cup and in the International Marathon Chepojarwi Ski-2010 in Toksowo over 30 kilometers, a marathon Competition of the Euroloppet series.
For the 2010/11 season , Nafranowitsch switched from cross-country skiing to biathlon. In Beitostølen she made her debut in the IBU Cup at the start of the season , where she immediately finished eighth in her first race, then 23rd, in sprint races and not only won her first points, but was also able to finish in the top ten. Two weeks later she made her World Cup debut in Hochfilzen , where she was 96th in a sprint.
