Frequency Mord (Original title: Fréquence meurtre ) is a French thriller with Catherine Deneuve and André Dussollier from 1988. The literary model was the novel The Voice of the Murderer ( When the Dark Man Calls , 1983) by Stuart Kaminsky .
action
Renowned psychologist Jeanne Quester hosts a successful radio show in which she gives callers advice on life. She herself had to overcome a trauma of her own: As a child, she witnessed her parents being maliciously murdered. She could only come to terms with this experience through her job and her happy private life. But one day a mysterious caller conjures up these memories and threatens Jeanne's life. In addition, Faber, the alleged murderer of her parents, was recently released from prison. When she realizes that someone has secretly gained access to her apartment and she also has to fear for the life of her daughter Pauline, she turns in despair to her brother Frank, who works as the head of the criminal investigation department. He entrusts the matter to Inspector Simon Lieberman.
Faber finally gets in touch with Jeanne to assure her of his innocence. Shortly afterwards he is murdered, while the mysterious caller continues to molest Jeanne. To her horror, Pauline is kidnapped a little later. When she agrees on a sum of money with the kidnapper and arrives at the agreed meeting point, her brother Frank appears, who turns out to be a vengeful psychopath and murderer and who has felt neglected by Jeanne over the years. But before Frank can commit two more murders, Jeanne and Pauline are rescued by Inspector Lieberman, who has discovered Frank's double life.

Reviews
“Psychological thriller built with considerable tension and without superficial horror effects,” judged the lexicon of international films . Elisabeth Rappeneau's debut film, however, shows an “increasingly implausible story construction and inconsistent design means”, which is why it “remains well below its possibilities” in the end. For Cinema , frequence murder was “[f] inster staged”, but “very transparent”. The conclusion was: "Great cast, but not exactly credible." Prisma said similarly about the film: "Despite the initial tension, this thriller unfortunately soon becomes too transparent and predictable."
