Isidor Neumann , ennobled as Edler von Heilwart in 1905 (born March 2, 1832 in Misslitz , † August 31, 1906 in Bad Vöslau ) was an Austrian dermatologist and syphilidologist .

Life

Isidor Neumann, a native of Moravia , devoted himself to filed Matura a study of medicine at the University of Vienna , which he in 1858 with the acquisition of the academic degree of Dr. med. completed. Neumann received general medical training from Carl von Rokitansky and Josef von Škoda and histopathological training from Carl Wedl . As a result, he joined in 1859 as an assistant at Ferdinand von Hebra on before settling in 1862 for the field of skin diseases habilitated .

Isidor Neumann, appointed associate professor in 1875, succeeded Carl von Sigmund as head of the first clinical department for syphilis as well as the chair for syphilidology at the University of Vienna, after he had previously dealt with his competitor Heinrich Auspitz prevailed. Neumann, who retired in 1904 and was succeeded by his student Ernest Finger , died in 1906 on his country estate near Bad Vöslau as a result of a stroke . He rests in the old Israelite section of the Vienna Central Cemetery .

Neumann, he was one of the first to study the microscopic anatomy of skin diseases, and his research focused on mycology . He acted as an advisor to the Austro-Hungarian government and achieved the introduction of the subject dermatology as an examination discipline for medical students. In 1886, Neumann described a form of pemphigus vulgaris in a work published in the Vierteljahrsschrift für Dermatologie und Syphilis, later known as Pemphigus vegetans von Neumann. He was also the first to submit a detailed study of premature skin aging caused by extreme weather conditions.

One of Isidor Neumann's students is the Viennese dermatologist Salomon Ehrmann (1854–1926).
