occupation

Isle of the Damned is an American cannibal film from 2008. It was directed by Mark Colegrove . A story was spun around the film, the basic element of which is that it is a long-lost film by the Italian director "Antonello Giallo" that was shot for the wedding of the cannibal film in 1980.

action

The private detective Jack Steele was hired by the unscrupulous businessman Harald Thompson to look for the treasure of Marco Polo on a group of islands . On the trip is Steele's adopted son Billy, whom Thompson tries to assault on several times. They land on the "Island of the Damned", the last island they have not yet explored. However, there is a cannibal tribe guarding the treasure. After watching another group be captured by the cannibals, Steele and Billy brave the cannibals while Thompson takes advantage of the excitement and tries to assault a woman. He is eventually captured by the cannibals.

Steele and Billy are picked up by Alexis Kincaid and his henchman Raoul, an ex- yakuza killer , and brought to their villa. There they decide to free Thompson together, since he still has the key to the ship. But Thompson is ritually raped by the cannibal tribe and they can only free him when the entire tribe goes on the hunt. At dinner, Alexis tells the crowd that he found the treasure years ago, but that this treasure has only brought bad luck to him and his ex-wife.

Thompson pretends to be on the return trip plans, but then goes in search of the treasure. When he raped Billy because of this, a big showdown followed, at the end of which only Steele survived. He finds the treasure, but leaves it on the island and escapes by boat towards civilization.

production

The film was shot in Maryland on a budget of around $ 20,000. It was released on October 17, 2008 in the United States and had its German-language premiere on April 18, 2009 at the Splatterdaynightfever in Saarbrücken. Then he ran on the Weekend of Fear . The film was released on DVD in Austria in 2009. The synchronization was commissioned by Oliver Krekel .

The film itself contains allusions to the classics of the genre, for example a scene in which the cannibals eat a fetus. This is based on Man-Eater - The man eater . Other film scenes are based on works such as Naked and Mangled and Eaten Alive . The fictional production story has parallels to the plot of the film Mondo Cannibale . The film was assigned an asynchronous synchronous track. The film itself has been processed with image defects that are caused by wear and tear on a 35 mm film.

The film has been indexed on List B since May 31, 2012 and has been confiscated since June 28, 2012. For September 2014 a release is planned in a shortened version under the title Cannibal Inferno .

Fictional production history

The film's environment also includes a fictional production story that complemented the homage to the cannibal films of the 1970s and enriched it with common myths that were also part of the predecessor genre of the moon films . Isle of the Damned, for example, would be the work of Italian director Antonello Giallo. This was an eccentric and controversial director from the 1970s, who is also said to have made the predecessor Pleasures of the Damned and the successor City of the Damned (the first was the first work of the real director Mark Colegrove). The film has only now reappeared and has been banned in 492 countries.

criticism

The film is aimed primarily at a genetic republic and was discussed almost exclusively in this context. In the gene republications, the film is usually considered successful.
