István Wampetits

István Wampetits (born May 3, 1903 , † May 1, 1993 ) was a Hungarian football player and coach . He spent most of his coaching work in Sweden , where he is one of the modernizers of football there, alongside his Hungarian compatriots József Nagy , Lajos Czeizler and Kálmán Konrád .

Career

After a career as a player and coach at Debreceni Vasutas SC , Wampetits came to Sweden in 1937 on the mediation of his compatriots Nagy and Czeisler, where he looked after Degerfors IF . Under his management the team rose in the summer of 1938 after successes in the rise of games over Malmo BI in the Allsvenskan on. After the direct relegation, the team dominated their second division season and was after the renewed promotion in 1941 behind Helsingborgs IF runner-up. As a result, the club established itself in the middle of the table. At the same time, the development of talent was one of his strengths, especially the later five-time top scorer of the Italian Serie A Gunnar Nordahl and his brother Bertil he brought from the lower-class amateur club Hörnefors IF and developed them into national players.

In 1944 Wampetits moved to the Råsunda national stadium within Sweden . There he was on the one hand club coach at AIK , parallel to his work for the club, Svenska Fotbollförbundet hired him as a supervisor for the Swedish national team , which was nominated by a selection committee at the time. In early 1945 he briefly trained Malmö FF . In 1948 he handed over his activities at AIK and the association to the Englishman George Raynor , he took over the Gothenburg club Örgryte IS . In the 1950s he worked in Kalmar for Kalmar FF and local competitor Kalmar AIK , in 1959 he took over Halmstads BK . After relegation at the end of the season he ended his engagement, later he still coached the Finnish club Helsingfors IFK .
