It's a Blue World is a song by George "Chet" Forrest (music) and Robert Craig Wright (lyrics), released in 1939.

The songwriting team Forrest and Wright, who had previously composed the song Donkey Serenade for the film The Firefly , wrote It's a Blue World for the film musical Music in My Heart (1940) produced by Columbia Pictures and directed by Joseph Santley . Rita Hayworth and Tony Martin play the leading roles and also introduce the song. The song It's a Blue World received an Oscar nomination for Best Song in 1941 .

Numerous cover versions of the song were made as early as 1939/40 . a. by Tommy Dorsey / Frank Sinatra , Woody Herman , Jack Teagarden , Gene Krupa , Ella Fitzgerald , Will Bradley and the Casa Loma Orchestra under the direction of Glen Gray .
