It's a Blue World is a song by George "Chet" Forrest (music) and Robert Craig Wright (lyrics), released in 1939.
The songwriting team Forrest and Wright, who had previously composed the song Donkey Serenade for the film The Firefly , wrote It's a Blue World for the film musical Music in My Heart (1940) produced by Columbia Pictures and directed by Joseph Santley . Rita Hayworth and Tony Martin play the leading roles and also introduce the song. The song It's a Blue World received an Oscar nomination for Best Song in 1941 .
Numerous cover versions of the song were made as early as 1939/40 . a. by Tommy Dorsey / Frank Sinatra , Woody Herman , Jack Teagarden , Gene Krupa , Ella Fitzgerald , Will Bradley and the Casa Loma Orchestra under the direction of Glen Gray . The version of the Glenn Miller Orchestra ( Bluebird 10561 or His Master's Voice BD5587, coupled with The Woodpecker Song ) came in March 1940 at number 14 on the US charts, where it stayed for four weeks.
In the 1950s, the song was also covered by Mel Tormé , the Lionel Hampton Quartet ( Clef 98128) and The Four Freshmen , who were in the US charts for the last time in 1952 (# 30); He was also recorded in the field of jazz by Billy Bauer , Rusty Bryant , Barney Kessel , Joe Puma , Coleman Hawkins , Eddie Lockjaw Davis and Red Garland (album of the same name on Prestige Records 1958).
