Iulia-Ionela Ionicǎ (until March 2004 with the World Chess Federation FIDE as Iulia Ionica ; born July 4, 1980 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian chess player .

In 2001 she won the Romanian women's individual championship in Târgovişte , and the November tournament in Bucharest in 2003 . She reached second place at the Romanian women's championship in 2007 in Amara (behind Corina-Isabela Peptan ), third place each in 2004 in Brașov and in 2006 in Predeal . She played club chess in Romania for Hidrocon Bacau , as of 2011 for CSM Craiova , and in the Croatian 1st women's league for Draga Rijeka . In Germany they played in the first woman Bundesliga in the 2008-09 season for SK Großlehna . Like the Romanian top player Carmen Voicu-Jagodzinsky , she was a member of the Sauerland SV Hemer .

She has held the title of Women's Grand Master (WGM) since November 2008 . Jianu gave up. The only possible move was the capture of the check-giving white bishop on f7 with his queen , which would have resulted in an immediate mate with Qf4 – g5 ++: the black king no longer has an escape square due to the blockade of the f7 square by his own queen.
