János Borbándi
János Borbándi (born May 26, 1923 in Gyorok , Arad County , Romania ; † August 6, 1994 in Siófok , Somogy County ) was a Hungarian politician of the Party of the Hungarian Working People MDP (Magyar Dolgozók Pártja) and finally the Hungarian Socialist Workers Party MSZMP ( Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt) , who was among other things Vice Prime Minister between 1974 and 1984 and at the same time chairman of the National Defense Committee (Honvédelmi Bizottság) .
Life
Education, Vice Secretary of Defense and MP
After finishing school, Borbándi, the son of a bricklayer , completed vocational training as an electrician in an electric motor factory in Timișoara and then worked as a journeyman at Alföldi Gépjavítóban and then at the motorcycle manufacturer Csepel . In 1945 he joined the Communist Party KMP (Kommunisták Magyarországi Pártja) and in 1949 became party secretary in a machine tool factory. After a subsequent activity from 1950 to 1953 as an instructor of the Central Committee (ZK) of the Party of Hungarian Working People MDP (Magyar Dolgozók Pártja) , which emerged from the KMP, he was party secretary at Lenin -Kohászati Művek , a steelmaking company in Diósgyőr, from 1954 to 1955 .
After completing a three-year course at the party college of the CPSU between 1955 and 1958 , Borbándi became secretary of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party MSZMP (Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt) in the II. Budapest district in December 1958 .
On September 1, 1961, with the rank of Brigadier General, he became Vice Minister for Defense and Head of the Main Political Administration. During this time he completed a degree in economics at the Karl Marx University of Economics MKKE (Marx Károly Közgazdaságtudományi Egyetem) . In addition, he was elected at the 8th Party Congress of the MSZMP on November 24, 1962 as a candidate for the Central Committee and on February 24, 1963 as a candidate on the reserve list of the Patriotic Popular Front HNF (Hazafias Népfront) as a member of parliament (Országgyűlés) .
Central Committee Head of Department and Vice Prime Minister
After Borbándi had finished his work in the Ministry of Defense on June 1, 1966, he was after the IX. Party congress of the MZSMP on December 3, 1966 as Mihály Korom's successor, head of the Central Committee's administration department. At the Xth Party Congress on November 28, 1970, he was elected a member of the Central Committee, which he was until the XIII. Party Congress on March 28, 1985. During this time he also worked as a defense expert for the Central Committee and on November 21, 1972, among other things, he wrote a report with the Minister of Defense Lajos Czinege on the situation of civil defense and its future direction.
On March 21, 1974, Borbándi was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers in the cabinet of Prime Minister Jenő Fock and also held this ministerial office in the government of Fock's successor György Lázár until December 6, 1984. During this time, he also worked from 1974 to 1984 as chairman of the Committee for National Defense (Honvédelmi Bizottság) , of which he had been a member since December 15, 1966. He was also a member of the State Planning Commission (Állami Tervbizottság) .
