The village was established in 1783 in the course of the Josephine colonization on the eastern bottom of the village of Jaślany. 40 German Catholic families were settled as colonists on 282 hectares. The colony was named after the emperor.

In 1812 the colony had 180 people, in 1880 there were 217 and in 1890 170 Germans. In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Józefów became part of Poland. This was interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II , during which it belonged to the Generalgouvernement .

In 1921 only 3 residents in Józefów (Josefsdorf) declared themselves German.
