József Zakariás [ ˈjoːʒɛf ˈzɒkɒriaːʃ ] (born March 25, 1924 in Budapest , † November 22, 1971 ibid) was a Hungarian football player .

Career

Zakariás was a member of the " Golden Elf " ( Hungarian Aranycsapat ), the Hungarian national team, also known as Magical Magyars, which lost 2: 3 to the German selection at the 1954 World Cup in Bern at the Wunder von Bern .

The midfielder Zakariás, who was under contract with MTK Hungária FC in Budapest in 1954 , played in four games of the 1954 World Cup. Between 1947 and 1954 he was able to record 35 appearances in the national jersey. He was mostly used as a left defensive outside runner ( equivalent to today's defensive midfielder ) alongside playmaker Nandor Hidegkuti and behind the left offensive forces Puskas, Budai and Mihály Tóth.

In 1952 he won the gold medal with the Hungarian team at the Olympic Games in Helsinki. After his active time, he worked as a coach for Szigetszentmiklósi SE (1959-1960), the national team of Guinea (1961-1968) and Medosz Erdért SE (1968-1971).
