Jörg-Martin Pönnighaus
Jörg-Martin Pönnighaus (born October 31, 1947 in Mennighüffen , today Löhne ) is a German writer doctor .
Life
Pönnighaus studied medicine in Giessen and worked in Zambia from 1975 to 1977 , at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine from 1977 to 1978 and in Malawi from 1979 to 1992 , where he headed a leprosy research project. From 1993 to 1995 he trained as a dermatologist in Homburg , from 1996 to 2001 he was senior physician at the skin clinic of the Vogtland Clinic in Plauen, and from 2002 to 2008 he managed a hospital in Tanzania . From 2009 to 2012 he worked again at the Vogtland Clinic.
In 2012 he retired and devoted himself to his literary works. Since medicine never really let go of him, he has since worked (with interruptions) in the dermatological department of the BG Klinik Falkenstein . He also traveled to the Philippines on humanitarian missions and three times for six weeks in the slums of Kolkata . His last assignment so far with German Doctors takes him to Bangladesh. Since his return from Africa and coming to terms with his experiences there, his literary works have been shaped by the daily stories of his fellow men. The experiences of his patients in the Second World War shape his current work, just like his last experiences abroad.
About his experiences in Africa he published prose and poetry a. a. in the almanac of German-speaking writers' doctors , in Athena-Verlag and at conception Seidel .
