Career
Eberle started his career in 1981 at SC Herisau in the NLB . After his debut season with the Herisauers, Eberle moved to the NLA for HC Lugano , where he received his first professional contract worth 70,000 francs. But even there he only lasted one season, followed by a move to HC Davos , where Eberle won his first NLA title in the 1983/84 season and repeated this success only one season later. In 1985 the striker returned to HC Lugano. Eberle stayed with the Luganesi for the next eleven years and won four championship titles during that time. After a short interlude at EHC Kloten , Eberle came to EV Zug in 1997, with whom he won his last championship title in 1998, before he announced his retirement from professional sport in 1999.
After the end of his career he worked as a sports manager at HC Davos and in 2002 also as manager of the Spengler Cup . In 2003 he left HC Davos at his own request. Between 2003 and 2009 he was sports director at HC Lugano, but then switched to player development within the club. In 2013 Eberle moved to the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation , where he now works in the Development department.
International
Eberle made his debut in the Swiss national ice hockey team , at that time still as an NLB player, in 1982. In the following years he became a permanent member of the national team, in 1991 he was even appointed captain. In 1986 and 1990 he was promoted to the world group. He celebrated his greatest success at the 1992 World Cup , when Switzerland advanced into the game for 3rd place and lost to Czechoslovakia 2: 5. Just one year later - 1993 - the Swiss were relegated to the B group again. With 142 points in 193 games - with only 4 penalty minutes - Eberle is the record scorer of the Swiss national ice hockey team.
