Jörg Hieber (born May 15, 1938 ) is a German retailer and former chairman of the supervisory board of Edeka AG . He is the founder and owner of the regional retail chain Hieber's Freshness Center KG , which belongs to Edeka Südwest and is headquartered in Lörrach in the south-west of Baden-Württemberg .

Life and achievement

Originally from the Stuttgart area, Hieber wanted to become a butcher , but did not find an apprenticeship position in the post-war period and therefore began training as a pastry chef at the age of 14 after finishing secondary school . After graduation, he gained professional experience on a cruise ship on the England-North America route, worked on the North Sea islands and on the Chiemsee in Bavaria, where he met his wife Anneliese, a hotel secretary who came from a farming family. After the engagement he followed her to her home town in the south of Baden, Binzen , took a job in a pastry shop in nearby Basel and helped out with the in-laws' farms. In 1962 the couple moved to Überlingen on Lake Constance. Hieber passed the master craftsman examination there and the marriage followed in 1963.

In 1966, because he couldn't find a lender to take over a pastry shop due to insufficient equity despite a long search, Hieber opened his first own grocery store with 50 square meters of sales area in the 1500-inhabitant village of Steinen-Höllstein , where two predecessors had already failed. The only preparatory training for this was a two-week commercial internship for the couple. Since the daily income was not enough for a living, Hieber also made confectionery. When he offered this at the Edeka in- house fairs , he achieved his first major success. Up to 1985 there were ups and downs until shortly before the bankruptcy, but later it grew again to its present size.

In his professional career, Hieber held various management positions at Edeka Südwest and later at the German headquarters in Hamburg. Since mid-2003 he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Edeka Zentrale AG & Co. KG and a member of the Strategy Advisory Board . He also served as chairman of the supervisory board of Edeka AG for six years , until he left the company in mid-2005 due to reaching the age limit; his successor was Peter Simmel .

At the beginning of 2010 Jörg Hieber retired from the operative business in his company and took over the chairmanship of the advisory board. Today his son Dieter Hieber is personally liable partner. Jörg Hieber lives with his wife in Binzen.

Social Commitment

Jörg Hieber, an active cyclist and skier, works as a sports sponsor. The proceeds of the Tour de Hieber , which he initiated and which he organizes annually and in which he participates, go to the regional sports clubs involved.

Awards

The Hieber company and the Hieber stores have already received numerous awards. In 2004 Jörg Hieber was named businessman of the year , in 2006 with a special award from Trainer of the Year 2006 . In 2006 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his life's work.
