politics

Jörg Stroedter has been a member of the SPD since 1971. He is the district chairman of the SPD in Reinickendorf and chairman of the Heiligensee - Konradshöhe - Tegelort department . He was a member of the District Assembly (BVV) of Reinickendorf.

Since October 2006 he has been a member of the Berlin House of Representatives ( constituency Reinickendorf 2 ) and deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. As the spokesperson for investment policy, he is responsible for the corporate investments of the State of Berlin and the areas of economy and finance. He is a member of the Economic Committee (and Deputy Chairman) and of the sub-committee for investment management and controlling. Since May 2014 he has been chairing the “New Energy for Berlin” study commission, whose aim is to develop ideas and concepts for the design of a public utility in Berlin .

On December 9th, 2008 he was elected by the district delegate assembly (KDV) of the Reinickendorfer SPD with over 82% of the votes as a direct candidate in constituency 78 . In the elections to the German Bundestag he was then defeated by his direct opponent Frank Steffel from the CDU with 27.7% of the first votes (Steffel got over 39%). Due to the overall poor performance of the SPD, like Klaus Uwe Benneter , he did not enter the state list . He ran in 6th place and was only second behind Benneter. In late autumn 2012, he was nominated again to win back Steffel's mandate in the 2013 federal elections. Although he improved his result, got 29.5% of the first votes and thus gained more than 3,000 votes, it was again not enough for entry into the Bundestag (Steffel got 45% first votes). Stroedter had renounced a list candidacy.

His political successes include a. the energetic building renovation in the Märkisches Viertel . Together with the MP Brigitte Lange , he campaigned for the state-owned GESOBAU in 2007/08 to avoid the sale of apartments and instead set up a 440 million euro renovation program. Despite initial tenant protests, the construction work went largely smoothly and to the satisfaction of most tenants. In 2010, GESOBAU received the German Sustainability Award from the foundation of the same name in cooperation with the Federal Government and the Council for Sustainable Development .

Stroedter is an advocate of the remunicipalisation course of the Berlin SPD. Together with the SPD parliamentary group in the House of Representatives, he succeeded in getting the coalition partner CDU through that the Berlin water company , which was partially privatized in 1999, was bought back by RWE and Veolia . Many in the Berlin Social Democrats considered this to be an important concern after the “ water referendum ” in spring 2011. In the meantime, based on a ruling by the Federal Cartel Office of June 4, 2012, water prices rose by 15% for drinking water and around 6% for wastewater be lowered.

Stroedter is also fighting for the rapid closure of Tegel Airport (TXL) after the commissioning of BER and is campaigning for a strict night flight ban in Tegel and a stronger relocation of air traffic to Schönefeld (old); this includes u. a. the relocation of mail flights.

Stroedter is the spokesman for “Berliner Mitte” within the Berlin SPD, an association of members who describe themselves as “pragmatic” and represent a minority in the structurally “left” Berlin SPD.

He is u. a. Member of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO), the development association of the Lübars Youth Farm and Rabauke eV
