Jörg Vienken

Jörg Vienken (born June 1, 1948 ) is a German biomedical scientist . He is a leading expert in biomaterials and membranes.

Life

Jörg Vienken studied chemical process engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt from 1968 to 1975 , then biophysics at the RWTH Aachen . In 1980 he was at the RWTH Aachen with the work of electric field effects in erythrocytes and lymphocytes and improve cryofixation of biological cells for Dr.-Ing. PhD . In 1996 he was appointed Professor of the International Faculty for Artificial Organs (INFA) in the Faculty of Bioengineering at Strathclyde University in Glasgow . Visiting professorships followed, for example in 1997 at the Danube University Krems and at the Technical University of Ilmenau , University of Strathclyde Glasgow , University of Bologna , RWTH Aachen University, Fresenius University and at the University of Applied Sciences IMC Krems.

From 1996 to 2013 Vienken also worked for Fresenius Medical Care in Bad Homburg as Research Director of the BioScience Department. After retiring, he has been a member of the board of the Hamburg company Nephro-Solutions since 2013 .

He was also involved in international scientific societies such as the European and International Society for Artificial Organs (ESAO and ISAO), of which he became a board member. Vienken has been a member of the Leibniz Society of Sciences in Berlin since 2000 , where he was the managing director of the Foundation of Friends of the Leibniz Society. He is the scientific and technical advisory board of the Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies .

He has published more than 150 papers in the field of artificial organs and regenerative medicine . He is also on the editorial board of a number of academic journals.
