Jörn Maier

Jörn Maier (born April 26, 1971 in Elmshorn ) is a German American football coach.

career

Maier was a founding member of the Elmshorn Fighting Pirates in 1991 . Between 1995 and 1998 he was a member of the coaching staff at Southern Oregon University in the United States , where he was responsible for the defensive back position . In the 1999 season, Maier looked after the running backs at the Aschaffenburg Stallions in the top German GFL division , and at the Frankfurt Ravens he was head coach in the 2000 season. In 2001 Maier joined the Rhein Fire coaching staff and looked after the players in the linebacker position of the Düsseldorf team in the NFL Europe . He held this office until 2005. With the Rhinelander he was in the World Bowl in 2002 and 2003 .

This was followed in the 2005 season by the second division club Lübeck Cougars as head coach, in 2006 he was responsible for the linebackers at the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes and rose with the team in the first division. Maier returned to Lübeck and between 2007 and 2009 was the head coach of the Lübeck Seals. From 2010 to 2012 he worked again in Kiel and took care of the position of the defensive back and the players with special tasks in the coaching staff of the first division club Baltic Hurricanes . In 2010 he was German champion with the Fördestädtern and German runner-up in 2011 and 2012. At the same time, he acted as head coach of the Schleswig-Holstein state youth team and was the offensive coordinator of the German women's national team in 2009 and 2010. In a second term, Maier was in charge of the Lübeck Seals as head coach in the 2013 season, and in 2014 he was responsible for the attack formation for the Elmshorn Fighting Pirates before he took up the post of head coach at his home club in the run-up to the 2015 season. In 2015, relegation from the second division had to be accepted. Maier, who works full-time at a bank, led the Elmshorners back to GFL 2 in 2017 , and in 2019 the Holsteiners made it into the top German league, the GFL, for the first time in the club's history as head coach.
