Jørgen Randers

Jørgen Randers (born May 22, 1945 in Worcester , England ) is a Norwegian university professor , author and futurologist .

Life

Randers graduated from Oslo University and received his PhD in 1973 from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts . From 1981 to 1989 he was President of the BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo, Norway . From 1994 to 1999 he held the post of Deputy Director General of the World Wide Fund For Nature in Switzerland .

Teaching

Randers is Professor of Climate Strategies at BI Norwegian Business School and, in addition to general climate issues, also deals with topics such as scenario technology and system dynamics . He often gives lectures to company representatives abroad on topics such as sustainable development , especially with regard to climate change and the threat of global warming .

Other activities

Randers is a member of the supervisory boards of the Norwegian company Tomra and the advisory board for sustainable business at British Telecom and the US Dow Chemical Company . From 2005 to 2006 he was the chairman of the Norwegian Commission on Greenhouse Gas Reduction . The commission presented a report showing how the country could reduce two thirds of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Randers became known in 1972 as a co-author of the study The Limits to Growth of the Club of Rome . This study was updated with updates in 1992 and 2004 . This was followed by book 2052. The new report to the Club of Rome , which was voted into the top ten future literature of 2012 by the Robert Jungk Library for future issues in the magazine proZukunft . One percent is enough was published in 2016 .
