Jews are first mentioned in Ehrstädt from 1548 to 1550 (Jud Moses) and from 1577 to 1580 (Jud Gutkind). However, a larger settlement only came about in the course of the repopulation of the place after the Thirty Years War under the rule of the barons of Degenfeld . In the 18th century, Christoph Ferdinand I von Degenfeld (in Ehrstädt from 1728 to 1766) was considered a "Jew friend". The local rulers were mostly in debt at that time and the taxes to be paid by the Jews were welcome. From 1727 even the former council room in the old schoolhouse was rented to Jews as an apartment. From then on, the councilors had to meet in their private homes until the new school building was built in 1885.

The Jewish community grew, like the rest of the population of the place, especially in the first half of the 19th century and reached its peak around 1848 with 70 people. The community had been part of the Sinsheim district rabbinate since 1827 . In the second half of the 19th century, the number fell rapidly due to emigration and emigration. In 1900 there were still five Jewish residents, in 1910/12 there were none. A ritual bath ( mikveh ) was located in the synagogue built in 1836 . The synagogue building was sold after the dissolution of the Jewish community.
