The first Jews settled in Eichtersheim around 1700, the Lords of Venningen offered them protection . The Jewish community experienced its heyday in the 19th century when it owned a synagogue , a Jewish cemetery and a Jewish elementary school . The Jewish community of Eichtersheim had belonged to the Bruchsal district rabbinate since 1828 .

The Jews in Eichtersheim lived mainly from the retail trade and cattle trade. In the second half of the 19th century, around 60 Jews from Eichtersheim emigrated to the USA , so that in 1900 the community only comprised 54 people.

National Socialist Persecution

In 1933 there were still 18 Jewish people living in Eichtersheim. In 1938 the Jewish community was officially dissolved and the Jews still resident there were assigned to the Jewish community of Bruchsal . The synagogue building was sold to private individuals before November 1938 and was therefore preserved.

The memorial book of the Federal Archives lists 7 Jewish citizens born in Eichtersheim who fell victim to the genocide of the National Socialist regime .
