The Jewish community in Eschelbach , a district of the city of Sinsheim in the Rhein-Neckar district in Baden-Württemberg , probably originated in the 17th century and existed until 1877.

history

The Jewish community of Eschelbach was assigned to the district rabbinate Sinsheim in 1827 . The highest number of Jewish residents in Eschelbach was reached around 1832 with 59 people. In the second half of the 19th century, the number of Jews fell rapidly due to emigration and emigration. In 1875 there were only seven Jews living in Eschelbach, in 1877 only one widow with her children.

A prayer room had been set up in the back building of the house on today's property at Hirschhornstrasse 21 since the beginning of the 19th century. In 1832 the Jewish community also bought the front building in order to set up a synagogue and a classroom.

After the official dissolution of the Jewish community in 1877, the synagogue building was auctioned off in 1878. It went to Jacob Weinheimer in Karlsruhe for 335 marks. The former synagogue building has been preserved as a residential building to this day.
