Jewish community Michelfeld

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jewish community Michelfeld in Michelfeld , a district of the municipality of Angelbachtal in the Rhein-Neckar district in northern Baden-Württemberg , was probably built in the 16th century.

history

The Jewish community experienced its heyday in the 19th century when it owned a synagogue , a Jewish cemetery and a Jewish elementary school . A teacher was employed who was both a prayer leader and a schochet . The Jewish community of Michelfeld had belonged to the Bruchsal district rabbinate since 1828 .

The Jews earned their livelihood by trading cattle, local products and textiles. In 1808 Zacharias Oppenheimer built a woolen cloth factory (later: Wolltuchfabrik Gebr. Oppenheimer ). In 1814 a mechanical spinning and fulling mill was built, the factory employed 60 to 70 people.

In 1935 only the Lang and Strauss families lived on site. After the official dissolution of the community on November 18, 1935, the Michelfelder Jews were assigned to the Jewish community of Eichtersheim .

National Socialist Persecution

In 1933 there were still five Jewish people living in Michelfeld, who were deported in October 1940 as part of the Wagner-Bürckel campaign .

The memorial book of the Federal Archives lists seven Jewish citizens born in Michelfeld who fell victim to the genocide of the National Socialist regime .
