The Jewish cemetery Bad Homburg vor der Höhe is a Jewish cemetery in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe in the Hessian Hochtaunuskreis . It is a protected cultural monument .

The cemetery is located in Gluckensteinweg 50a near the Götzenmühlweg intersection. In the cemetery, which has an area of 2,673 m², there are some graves of spa guests from Russia and England who died during their stay in Bad Homburg.
Morgue
The morgue was originally a simple building. In 1913 it was renovated and embellished in an oriental style based on a design by Louis Jacobi . In 2009, the building was completely renovated by the city of Bad Homburg for € 300,000. The inscription above the entrance reads:
“You are not giving my Sele to the crypt. Do not let your pious see corruption "
history
The cemetery was laid out in 1865, the perimeter wall was built in 1881. In 1884 the morgue was completed. In 1934 the cemetery was desecrated . Numerous gravestones were knocked over and some were badly damaged.
After the Jewish community in the spa town was wiped out in 1942, the cemetery became the property of the Frankfurt Jewish Community in 1948.
Old Jewish Cemetery
There was a Jewish cemetery in Homburg as early as the 17th century. Its location in Homburg is no longer known.
Until around 1900, the name “Judenkirchhof” was still popular. For the year 1684 there is an application for permission to erect “corpse stones” and a fence. The dead of the Jewish community in Oberursel were also buried there. The last burial in the old cemetery in Homburg is said to have taken place around 1790.
As early as 1703, the Jewish community of Homburg participated in the new construction of the cemetery near Seulberg . Since the closure of the old Homburg cemetery until 1864/65, the dead of the Homburg community were buried in Seulberg.
