The Jewish cemetery in Bischhausen is a cemetery in the district of Bischhausen in the town of Waldkappel in the Werra-Meißner district in Hesse .

The 482 m² Jewish cemetery is located about two kilometers from the village on the edge of the forest above the Wehretal. It is hidden at the edge of the forest and is difficult to find without local knowledge. According to a documentation from 1985 there are still 17 tombstones . They are distributed over two almost parallel rows.

history

Until the middle of the 19th century, the dead of the Jewish community in Bischhausen were buried in Reichensachsen or Jestädt . In 1857 the Jewish community acquired a piece of land in the "Im Rittershagen" corridor. The first burial took place in 1863, the cemetery was occupied until 1905. The cemetery was devastated during the Nazi era . The overturned stones were erected again after 1945.
