The Jewish cemetery Mirow is a Jewish cemetery in the town of Mirow in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It is considered a cultural monument .

description

The 850 m² cemetery was on the south-western outskirts of Mirowdorf on Lärzer Strasse opposite house no. 5 on a hill. There are no gravestones on it. Jewish cemeteries were designated as burial places on the official maps and were signed with an L instead of a †. Mostly they were created further outside the cities or communities, mainly in the barn districts or similar remote places, such as here outside the village suburb.

history

The Jewish cemetery was possibly laid out around 1800, but according to MTB it was probably created before 1880. During the Nazi era it was destroyed and the tombstones cleared. At the end of the 1950s, a memorial stone was erected under a group of trees on the property by the Mecklenburg State Jewish Community (large boulder with inscription). The property was maintained until the 1960s. In the following 20 years it became more and more neglected. A car company located next to it used part of the cemetery as a storage area and has partially excavated the hill for this purpose. According to the residents of Mirow, there was another Jewish cemetery on site (information from 1988).

In Mirowdorf Park there is a memorial stone on a 2 m high hill with a diameter of 30 m. The boulder stands on a field stone base and has an engraving: "In memory of the Jewish victims of fascism". There used to be a Jewish cemetery at this point.
