coastal settlement on La Palma , one of the Canary Islands belonging to Spain .
La Bombilla is ageography
The settlement mainly belongs to Tazacorte ; only its south belongs to the municipality of Puerto Naos of the city of Los Llanos de Aridane . Statistically, however, it is assigned to Los Llanos de Aridane. It is located in the southern part of Tazacorte or in the southwestern part of Los Llanos de Aridane, north of the town of Puerto Naos , directly on the Atlantic coast . It is surrounded by banana plantations in the north, east and south and can only be reached via a side road that ends in the settlement. The closest main road is the LP-213, which leads north via the districts Todoque and La Laguna to the city of Los Llanos and south to the center of Puerto Naos .
history
The land on which the La Bombilla settlement is now located next to extensive banana plantations (Las Hoyas) did not exist before 1949. With the volcanic eruption of the San Juan in June 1949, a lava flow poured from the western flank of the Cumbre Vieja from about 1300 msnm into the Atlantic, where it formed an approximately 6 × 3.5 km large lava platform in the sea.
"La bombilla" means "the light bulb" , which is what gave the settlement its name because of the beacon there. The first beacon was erected before a small fishing village was built, which over time had up to 200 houses. The houses, most of which were built without planning permission, were used by local fishermen as well as other islanders as permanent residences or as weekend houses. On the basis of the Coastal Protection Act , it was planned to demolish the houses. Unlike the northern settlement on Playa Nueva , which was razed between 2004 and 2007, La Bombilla persisted after protests and appeals against the implementation of the law. The settlement is allegedly no longer permanently inhabited. The few fishermen whose boats are still in La Bombilla mostly live in nearby Puerto Naos. The remaining houses continue to serve as weekend houses or are rented out to tourists. Their status is “illegal” but “tolerated” . The concrete slipway for the fishing boats is now used more as a bathing area than by fishermen.
Surroundings
The land north of the settlement belongs to the La Costa part of the municipality of Tazacorte as well as the lighthouse ( Faro de Punta Lava , built in 1993) and Playa Nueva (also called: Playa de Los Guirres ), an extensive beach with a spacious promenade.
Local fiesta
In honor of the locally revered Virgen del Carmen , a village festival (fiesta) with dancing and other cultural activities is held every year in the second half of August .
