The Jewish cemetery Frauenkirchen is located on St.-Andräer-Straße on the southern outskirts of the town of Frauenkirchen in the Neusiedl am See district in Burgenland . The Jewish cemetery is a listed building .

history

In 1678 Count Paul I. Esterhazy allowed Jews to settle in Frauenkirchen. The place belonged to the seven Jewish communities in Burgenland.

In 1876 the Jewish community of Frauenkirchen reached its peak with 864 Jews; In 1934 it still had 368 members. In the course of annexation to Nazi Germany, the Jewish population was expelled and murdered. The Frauenkirchen synagogue was destroyed by the National Socialists in 1939 .

The cemetery houses 1,320 graves on an area of ​​2,900 m². In 1994 the Shalom Association repaired the cemetery . A new gate was also built. In a renovated condition, the cemetery was given to the community for further maintenance.
