Jürgen Döschner (* 1957 in Duisburg ) is a German journalist . Since 1984 he has worked in various functions for West German Broadcasting Corporation (WDR) and ARD . From 2003 to September 2015 he worked in the business editorial department of WDR radio, a. a. as a specialist editor for energy topics. and headed the establishment of the investigative journalism division at WDR radio. Since the end of 2011, Döschner has been the official "energy expert" of ARD radio and works in this position in the chief editor of WDR radio.

Live and act

Jürgen Döschner graduated from the Kamp-Lintfort municipal high school in 1978 . He then studied journalism and history at the TU Dortmund until 1983 .

After graduating, Döschner initially worked briefly as a freelance journalist for various media ( DLF , DW , WDR, Ruhr-Nachrichten ) before joining WDR in 1984.

Since then he has been employed in various areas at WDR, including a. until 1989 as a reporter in the regional studio in Kleve, then until 1992 as editor for the WDR-2 midday magazine and from 1997 to 2002 as a correspondent and studio manager at the ARD radio studio in Moscow. From 1992 to 1997 and from 2003 to September 2015 he worked as an editor and reporter in the business department of WDR radio. In addition, from 2013 he headed the development of the “Investigative Journalism” division at WDR radio.

Döschner has made a name for himself above all as a reporter and critical commentator on questions relating to the energy industry. He is an avowed opponent of nuclear power and fracking . Döschner supports the energy transition towards renewable energies.

Repeatedly, Döschner publicly criticized the oil and gas companies and the large electricity suppliers for their pricing policy and for their behavior in the energy transition.

Controversy

In a comment in August 2015, Döschner endorsed a protest action by anti-coal activists in the Garzweiler open-cast lignite mine . In it he wrote u. a .: "The protests [...] may not always have been legal, but given the ignorance of money and power and the threat to be fought back, they are perfectly legitimate." This comment sparked violent protests, what Döschner arranged to respond to the allegations in an open letter.

In July 2017, Döschner caused outrage with a tweet when he spoke of the "gassing of tens of thousands of innocent people" in relation to diesel engines, thereby creating an analogy between non-compliance with exhaust gas limits and the Holocaust .

Honors

In 2008 Döschner received the Otto Brenner Prize (2nd prize) for the contribution Fire and Forget - War as a business for the armaments industry and arms trade.

In 2014 Döschner was founded by the non-profit association “European Association for Renewable Energies Eurosolar e. V. ", Eurosolar for short , was awarded the German Solar Prize in the" Special Prize for Personal Commitment "category.
