Jürgen Gnauck

Jürgen Gnauck (* 27. March 1958 in Trier ) is a German lawyer and politician of the CDU . From October 1999 to June 2003 and from October 2013 to July 2014 he was Minister for Federal and European Affairs and Head of the State Chancellery in the Thuringian state government .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1977, Gnauck studied law at the Rheinische-Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn . In 1984, he put the state examination at the Higher Regional Court of Cologne , and was in 1987 the state exam at the National Judicial Examination Office in Dusseldorf .

From 1988 to 1990 Gnauck worked as a department head at the Rhineland-Palatinate Community and Town Association in Mainz , before he was seconded in May 1990 to help set up the Thuringia community and city union. There he was acting managing director from 1990 to 1991 and was appointed country managing director in 1991. In 1996 he was admitted to the bar by the Thuringian Higher Regional Court .

At the end of September 1999, he gave up the management of the municipal and city union of Thuringia. From October 1st, 1999 to June 5th, 2003 he was Minister for Federal and European Affairs and Head of the Thuringian State Chancellery . With the change in the office of the Thuringian Prime Minister from Bernhard Vogel to Dieter Althaus , Gnauck resigned from the state government and returned as a managing board member to the municipality and city of Thuringia. From 2005 to December 31, 2012 he was Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management of E.ON Thüringer Energie AG and then worked as a lawyer in Erfurt. On October 16, 2013 Gnauck was reappointed Minister for Federal and European Affairs and Head of the State Chancellery; This made him the third head of the Thuringian State Chancellery in the state government led by Prime Minister Christine Lieberknecht .

Jürgen Gnauck resigned from his ministerial office on July 1, 2014. The public prosecutor's office in Erfurt has been investigating him since April 2014 on suspicion of infidelity, but announced in November 2015 that the investigation had been terminated in accordance with Section 170 (2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure . As a result, there was no sufficient suspicion of a crime, since Gnauck's actions or criminal omission were not recognizable.

Other memberships

Jürgen Gnauck was a member of the "Advisory Board East" of Deutsche Bank and a member of the Advisory Board of Erdgasversorgungsgesellschaft Thüringen-Sachsen mbH (EVG). From 2003 to 2014 he was President of the Thuringian Table Tennis Association . In his capacity as Thuringian Minister, he was a member of the Federal Council from October 11, 1999 to June 5, 2003 and again from October 22, 2013 to July 1, 2014 .
