According to research by Zeit Online , published in March 2018, Pohl is one of 18 AfD members of the Bundestag who employ people with right-wing to right-wing extremist backgrounds for their mandate tasks and parliamentary work. Pohl's colleague at the time, Heiko L., used to work for the right-wing weekly newspaper Junge Freiheit and wrote for Sleipnir, a small magazine of the lateral front that wanted to force a right-wing revolution. He is the founder and spokesman of the “Alternative Employees' Association of Central Germany” (ALARM). Together with Stephan Brandner he campaigns as "Die Volksanwälte".

After Andreas Kalbitz's AfD membership was withdrawn in May 2020, he positioned himself against Jörg Meuthen's federal executive board ; on Facebook he published under the heading "We are splitters!" a photo montage with the heads of the eight members of the board who voted to cancel membership.
