Jürgen Nitsch

Jürgen R. Nitsch (born September 23, 1940 in Königsberg ) is a German psychologist , sports scientist and retired professor at the German Sport University in Cologne .

academic career

After studying psychology and earning a doctorate as a Dr. phil. at the Technical University of Berlin with a thesis on fatigue in 1971, Nitsch took over the duties of the retired Eberhard Ulich at the German Sport University Cologne. When he took over the chair for psychology in 1975, he was appointed professor and head of the so-called Institute for Psychology at the university. From 1991 to 1995 he was Dean of the Faculty of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences at the Sport University. Jürgen Nitsch retired in autumn 2003.

Act

As head of the Psychological Institute at the German Sport University, Nitsch was a leading figure in German sport psychology for almost three decades . His theoretical model of the basic principles of sporting action, inspired by the action regulation theory of Winfried Hacker and Walter Volpert , was particularly influential , which he has further developed since the 1980s and made public in numerous publications. He has held leading positions in national and international sports psychology committees. Several of his students were given chairs in sport psychology at German universities.

Nitsch's influential position in German sports psychology also gave rise to discussions.
