Jürgen von Maercken zu Geerath (born August 14, 1915 in Berlin-Tempelhof ; † February 14, 1945 near Nieder-Seifersdorf in Silesia ) was a German officer.

Life

Jürgen Leo Egon Gottfried Hubert Freiherr Maercken zu Geerath came from the noble family Both and was the son of the lawyer Curt von Maercken zu Geerath (1887-1945) and his wife Martha Henriette Elisabeth, née Edle von Poschinger (1891-1980). He grew up in Munich with his siblings Curt (1918–1942 at sea) and Dagmar (* 1919). Here he attended the Maximiliansgymnasium from 1925 , where he passed his Abitur in 1935, with Ernst Bodensteiner , Georg Brauchle , Eberhard Hanfstaengl , Albert Lempp , Johanna Lenz , Paul Paede and Franz Josef Strauss , among others . The marriage with Ingeborg von Maercken had two daughters, Elke and Karen.

Juergen von Maercken joined the Wehrmacht one was on April 1, 1937 Lieutenant promoted and in the Second World War as adjutant of antitank used. With the rank of first lieutenant he was chief of the 1st company of the 36th Panzer Regiment of the 4th Panzer Division and commander of the "Sagan" armored replacement division. On February 1, 1944, he was promoted to major. Shortly before the end of the war, von Maercken fell in the battles of Army Group Center against Soviet troops between Görlitz and Rothenburg near Nieder-Seifersdorf in Silesia.
