Georg Brauchle

Georg Brauchle (born August 29, 1915 in Munich ; † April 23, 1968 there ) was a German local politician of the CSU . From 1960 until his death in 1968 he was the second mayor of Munich under Lord Mayor Hans-Jochen Vogel (SPD) .

Life

The son of the Munich master saddler Georg Brauchle sen. attended the Maximiliansgymnasium in Munich from 1926 and graduated from high school here in 1935, among others with Franz Josef Strauss and Johanna Lenz .

Act

During his tenure, Brauchle was one of the main supporters of the state capital's bid for the 1972 Summer Olympics . When Munich was entrusted with hosting the Games in April 1966 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), he advocated the accelerated implementation of a new transport concept, including the construction of the S-Bahn and the U-Bahn , as part of the Olympic planning.

Brauchle died in a Munich hospital as a result of an accident that occurred on April 7, 1968 on the Karlsruhe – Stuttgart motorway near Friolzheim . The Lord Mayor of Frankfurt Werner Bockelmann also died . Brauchle was buried in the Ostfriedhof in Munich.

Hans Steinkohl was elected Brauchle's successor .

Honors

In memory of Brauchle's merits , a part or a continuation of the Middle Ring was named after him in 1971 in Munich, not far from the Olympic site, see Georg-Brauchle-Ring . Since 2003 there has also been an underground station with the same name on Georg-Brauchle-Ring . The Georg-Brauchle-Haus , a residential monastery in the Perlach district of Munich , is also named after him .
