JT McIntosh

JT McIntosh was the artist pseudonym of the Scottish science fiction writer James Murdoch MacGregor (born February 14, 1925 in Paisley , Scotland ; died 2007 or 2008 in Aberdeen , Scotland), who occasionally published under the name James MacGregor . His first short story was published in 1950, his first novel World Out of Mind was published in 1953. His last work is from 1979 and is called A Planet Called Utopia .

Life

MacGregor was the son of civil servant Murdoch Macgregor and Marion, nee Dracup. He attended Robert Gordon's College in Aberdeen from 1936 to 1941 and studied at the University of Aberdeen , where he graduated with a Master's in 1947 . He then worked as a musician, teacher, photographer and editor for several magazines in Aberdeen, including Bon Accord and Press & Journal . Since 1960 he was married to Margaret Murray.

His first SF short story The Curfew Tolls was published in Astounding in 1950 , his first novel World Out of Mind was published in 1953. Since 1952 he has been a freelance writer. Together with John Mather and Edith Dell he wrote the script for the SF film Satellite in the Sky (1956). In addition to translations into German, his stories have been translated into French, Italian, Spanish, Swedish, Polish and Japanese. After the novel A Planet Called Utopia , published in 1979, no further publications followed.

His estate is in the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh.
