J. Thomas Lambrecht

Jörg Thomas Lambrecht (born May 22, 1950 in Heidelberg ); Legal domicile in Basel , is a German-Swiss specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery with the additional designation "Plastic Operations" and a specialist dentist for oral surgery .

Life

After graduating from Carman High School in Flint, Michigan (USA) in 1968 (AFS scholarship) and obtaining the humanistic Abitur in Mannheim , Lambrecht studied medicine and dentistry in Liège (Belgium) and Mainz from 1969 to 1979 , receiving his doctorate in 1977 Dr. med. dent. and in 1980 Dr. med. completed. As a student trainee he worked from 1970 to 1975 in the newsroom " heute " at the Second German Television in Wiesbaden (Taunus Film Studios). From 1976 to 1977 he worked as an assistant at the Mainz University Clinic for Dental Surgery , from 1979 to 1980 as a medical assistant at the municipal clinics in Wiesbaden . From 1980 to 1991 he was a research assistant and senior physician at the University Clinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . In 1987 and 1991 he received the annual best price of the oral surgery working group, in 1989 the German University Research Award and in 1992 the annual award of the Schleswig-Holstein Society for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine. In 1988 he completed his habilitation on a fundamental topic in osteology . In 1991 Lambrecht was elected and appointed Full Professor of Dentistry at the University of Basel (Switzerland) and Head of the Clinic for Dental Surgery, Radiology, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine at the University of Basel by the Government Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt . He headed the Department of Dentistry from 1993 to 2012 as Deputy Head and Head of Department. From 1991 to 2000 he represented the medical faculty in Basel at the Swiss Academy for Medical Sciences (SAMS). He was a member or chairman of eight structure and appointment commissions, the commissions for dissertation awards, the reform of the faculty regulations, the habilitation committee and the faculty committee and the faculty management.

From 1997 to 2000 he was a member of the university's planning committee. a. for the preservation of the course in dentistry (which was discussed after the university became autonomous). Specialty and treatment focus

Specialized areas in research, teaching and patient care are dental surgery including implant surgery, the surgical treatment of tooth-related diseases of the maxillary sinus , dento-maxillo-facial radiology and interdisciplinary oral medicine. From 1991 to 2017 Lambrecht regularly operated on underprivileged children with cleft lip and palate in developing countries. These voluntary assignments, which took him to Indonesia , India , Bhutan , Kenya , Mexico and Vietnam , are mainly financed by the Rotary Club Basel Riehen, which made him an honorary member in 2017. Since his retirement he has been working as a ship doctor at Thurgau Travel.

Scientific achievements

Lambrecht is the editor of eleven textbooks in five languages ​​and the author of around 250 publications and book chapters in his field, some of which are listed in PubMed . He has given multiple scientific lectures in all five continents.

His interest in basic research was the first-time representation of human osteoclasts (resorbing bone cells) in cell culture.

In clinical research, Lambrecht - together with Fred Brix - founded the first process for the production of three-dimensional individual patient models for operation simulation (now known as 3D MODEL PRINTING ) on the basis of CT , MRI and (later) DVT data in the mouth -, maxillofacial surgery.

Offices and memberships

Lambrecht was President of the International Society of Computer Aided Surgery (ISCAS) from 1993 to 1995, which made him an honorary member in 2004, and from 1997 to 2001 President and since 2011 honorary member of the Swiss Society for Dentomaxillofacial Radiology (SGDMFR).

With a brief interruption, he was Head of Department of the University Clinics for Dentistry at the University of Basel from 2001 to 2012. During this time he was intensively involved in maintaining the dentistry course, which at the autonomous University of Basel has repeatedly given rise to discussions for financial reasons.

In 2004 the University of Hong Kong offered him an honorary professor. Lambrecht was President of the Upper Rhine Dental Association from 2003 to 2007 and from 2012 to 2014. In 2008 he was made an honorary member of the International Society of Simulation Surgery, in 2013 an honorary member of the Swiss Society for Oral Surgery and Stomatology (SSOS).

He was a member of the editorial board and advisory board of ten (inter) national scientific journals, resp. President or board member of 30 (inter) national scientific societies.

Lambrecht is married to the dentist Sabine Lambrecht and lives in Basel ; they have three adult (and four grandchildren) children.
