José Joaquín "JJ" Arcega-Whiteside (born December 31, 1996 in Utebo , Spain ) is a Spanish -American American football player on the position of the wide receiver . He played college football for Stanford University and has been with the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League (NFL) since 2019 .

Early years

Arcega-Whiteside was born in Utebo, Spain. His parents were professional basketball players. When Arcega-Whiteside was six years old, the family moved to South Carolina . There Arcega-Whiteside attended Dorman High School in Roebuck . In addition to football, he also played basketball and was active as a sprinter.

college

From 2015 to 2018 he played college football for the Stanford Cardinal in the NCAA Division I FBS.

In total, he caught 135 balls for 2,219 yards in four years and managed 28 touchdowns . With fourteen touchdowns in 2018, he equaled the record at his college. Arcega-Whiteside was a semi-finalist in the Fred Biletnikoff Award election .

NFL

Arcega-Whiteside was selected 57th overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2nd round in the 2019 NFL Draft . This makes him the first Spaniard to be selected in an NFL draft.
