biography

Born in the southern Polish twin town of Bielsko-Biała as the son of a couple of actors, he played - after studying at the drama school in Łódź - his first role in the Polish TV production Bezpośrednie połączenie from 1979. Together with his brother Tomek, he left Poland in 1982 and moved - after a short stopover in Austria - to Melbourne , Australia . The reasons for leaving the country were, on the one hand, dissatisfaction with the communist regime and , on the other, a thirst for adventure. A not insignificant reason to leave the country was the fact that the Polish secret police tried to put him and his brother under pressure for some minor offenses. In Australia in the late 1980s, he also met his future wife - the actress Catherine McClements .

After language-related initial difficulties, Koman managed to consolidate himself as an actor in his new home. Since 1991, Koman has starred in around a dozen film productions - including the remake musicals Moulin Rouge (2001), Children of Men (2006) and Defiance (2008). In addition, there were roles in a further dozen TV series and TV films - as well as in the films with a focus on the genres of thriller / police film , war film and action . He also plays roles in classic theater plays - such as Macbeth and Moliere .

Since 2004, Koman has been the frontman and singer of the Melbourne band VulgarGrad - a group that is versed on Russian criminal songs, the so-called Blatnye pesni .
