Jacek Namysłowski (born February 27, 1982 in Warsaw ) is a Polish jazz musician ( trombone , also tuba , composition ).

Live and act

Namysłowski comes from a family of musicians; the jazz saxophonist Zbigniew Namysłowski is his father, the singer and pianist Maria Rumińska his sister. First he received piano lessons. He graduated from elementary music school as a flutist and turned to the trombone at grammar school. He graduated with honors from the Department of Jazz and Popular Music of the Katowice Music Academy . In 2004 he attended Jamey Aebersold's jazz workshop in Louisville .

During his studies Namysłowski played with his own quintet and with the group Timeless , which released their first album Total Time in 2004. He is a long-time member of the quintet by Zbigniew Namysłowski, with whom he toured internationally and recorded the albums Standards , Assymetry , Jazz at Prague Castle , Nice & Easy and Polish Jazz - Yes! grossed. He also leads his own band, with which he also appears internationally, and is part of the Jerzy Małek septet and the Kalatówka-Tygmont Big Band.

His debut album Moderate Haste was released in 2015 , which he presented as a quintet (with saxophonist Łukasz Poprawski, pianist Łukasz Ojdana , bassist Andrzej Święs and drummer Paweł Dobrowołski). He can also be heard on albums by J4zz PuZone , Maria Sadowska , Tomek Sowiński & The Collective Improvisation Group, Tricphonix , Maryla Rodowicz , Generation Next , Sasha Strunin and the jazz band Młynarski Masecki .

Prizes and awards

In 2000, Namysłowski and his quintet won first prize at the national competition for young jazz bands in Gdynia. In 2003 he took first place with Timeless and personally the individual prize at the Jazz Standard Competition in Siedlce, followed by the Grand Prix at Zadymka Jazzowa in Bielsko-Biała. For his outstanding progress at university, he received a scholarship from Jamey Aebersold's Summer Jazz Workshop . His album Moderate Hate was nominated in two categories (Jazz Album of the Year) and (Jazz Recording Debut of the Year) for the award of the Polish phono industry Fryderyk 2015.
