Jack Clarke (racing driver)

Jack Clarke (born March 1, 1988 in Effingham (Surrey) ) is a British automobile racing driver . He competed in Formula 2 from 2009 to 2011 . Clarke is the stepson of former Formula 1 racing driver Julian Bailey .

Career

Unlike most racing drivers Clarke did not start his career in karting , but joined in 2006 right in Formula racing in the British Formula BMW and ended his debut season at the 22nd place overall. In 2007 he switched to Formula Palmer Audi , in which he finished fourth overall with two wins. He also came third in the Formula Palmer Audi autumn championship. In 2008 the Briton stayed in the Formula Palmer Audi. He won two more races and finished fifth in the championship that season. This year he finished fourth in the Formula Palmer Audi autumn championship.

In 2009 , Clarke switched to the revived Formula 2 . The Briton was involved in a sad incident at Brands Hatch : Clarke lost control of his car at the exit of Westfield and turned into the lane. In the impact, a wheel came off his racing car and jumped back onto the track. After some riders were able to avoid the bike, the bike hit Henry Surtees on the helmet. Surtees lost consciousness on the spot and hit the barrier at the next bend. In the evening Surtees died in a hospital. At the end of the season, Clarke finished 18th overall with a fifth place as the best result. 2010 Clarke stayed in Formula 2 and finished ninth in the overall standings with two second places as the best result. In 2011 Clarke completed his third season in Formula 2. At Brands Hatch, he scored his first Formula 2 victory. In the overall standings, he improved to seventh place.
