Julian Bailey (born October 9, 1961 in Woolwich ) is a former British racing driver .

Career

Monopostosport

Julian Bailey was born in Great Britain but grew up in Menorca, Spain . Via Formula Ford and other junior series he got into Formula 3000 in 1987 and became the first Briton to win a championship run of this racing formula.

Julian Bailey took part in a total of seven races for the Formula 1 World Championship. He made his debut in 1988 at the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola for the English Tyrrell team in their Tyrrell 017 . In 1991 he competed in six races for Lotus , with sixth place at the Imola race remaining his best result. In the Lotus 102B reached his only world championship point in the world championship, three laps behind Ayrton Senna .

Sports and touring cars

Bailey excelled above all as a sports car driver. He drove for Lister in the GT championship and started for Nissan , Lister and MG five times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans , where he was denied a finish.

In the mid-1990s, Bailey joined the BTCC . In the British Touring Car Championship in 1995 , he finished ninth in the championship on a Toyota Carina .
