Jack Priestley
John "Jack" S. Priestley (born July 27, 1926 in New York City , United States , † May 26, 1993 in Los Angeles ) was an American cameraman .
Live and act
Priestley received his camera engineering training shortly after World War II and was involved in ambitious Cinerama widescreen documentaries as a camera assistant throughout the 1950s . In 1960, the New Yorker was promoted to chief cameraman and has since overseen a number of television productions in this role. These were mainly crime series, including classics such as Merciless City , Columbo and Cagney & Lacey . In addition, Priestley was chief cameraman for mostly less important movies - with the exception of the exciting cat-and-mouse thriller Bizarre Murders with Rod Steiger as a cunning psychopath and George Segal as his adversary - including the late Sinatra crime novel The First Deadly Sin , Burt Lancaster's The Midnight Man and the tough New York gangster war thriller Road to the Afterlife . It was productions that showed Priestley to be a solid craftsman.
For more weighty A-films, Priestley was limited to the function of a simple camera operator or second unit cameraman, for example in Otto Preminger's production So Gute Freunde , the extortion thriller Stop the journey of the subway 123 , the musical The Wiz - The magical land and the breakdance strip Beat Street . In the second part of Back to the Future , Priestley was the chief camera for the additional shots in the summer of 1989.
Awards
Priestley has been nominated several times for prizes and won the Primetime Emmy twice: in 1962 and 1963 for his camera work on Merciless City . Towards the end of his life, Jack Priestley also received the ASC Award from the American Cinematographers Association in 1992 for his performance on The Cases of Rosie O'Neill .
