Jack Six
Jack E. Six (born July 26, 1930 in Danville (Illinois) , † early 2015 ) was an American jazz bassist.
Six studied trumpet from 1945 to 1947 and then worked in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, where he studied composition for one year at the Juilliard School (1955/56). As a bassist played in the Tommy Dorsey Ghost Band under the direction of Warren Covington , then in the big bands of Claude Thornhill (1958) and Woody Herman (1959/60), while he continued his studies. Then he belonged to the groups of Herbie Mann and Don Elliott for several years . From 1968 to 1974 he worked in a trio with pianist Dave Brubeck and drummer Alan Dawson , then with Jim Hall . After a few years in TV shows and as the musical director of a hotel band, he was back on tour with Brubeck between 1989 and 1998. In the field of jazz he was involved in 77 recording sessions from 1957 to 1998. a. at Maxwell Davis , Tal Farlow , Jack Reilly , Dave Pike , Marlene VerPlanck , Gerry Mulligan , Susannah McCorkle , Dick Meldonian and Marty Grosz .
