Jackson Whistle (born June 9, 1995 in Kelowna , British Columbia ) is a Canadian - British ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Sheffield Steelers in the Elite Ice Hockey League since 2018 . There he plays with his brother Brandon . The father David was also a professional ice hockey player and worked as a trainer for the Iserlohn Roosters , among others .

Career

Jackson Whistle began his career with the Pursuit of Excellence in his hometown. In 2011 he won the Canada Winter Games with the British Columbia team . After he had spent the 2011/12 season with the Vancouver Giants from the Western Hockey League , who had selected him in the fourth round of the WHL Bantam Draft in the fourth round as a total of 79th player, he moved to league rivals Kelowna Rockets in 2012 . With the team from his hometown, he won the Ed Chynoweth Cup in 2015. He himself achieved the third best goal rate of the Western Hockey League after Carter Hart of the Everett Silvertips and Taran Kozun of the Seattle Thunderbirds . At the Memorial Cup 2015 , the final tournament of the champions of all three leagues of the Canadian Hockey League , he reached the final with the Rockets, which was lost 2-1 after extra time against the Oshawa Generals .

After the end of his junior years, Whistle moved to the United Kingdom in 2016, where he initially played for two years for the Belfast Giants, with whom he won the Challenge Cup of the Elite Ice Hockey League in 2018 . He has been in goal with league rivals Sheffield Steelers since 2018 .

International

Whistle played for the British national ice hockey team for the first time at the World Cup in Division I in 2018 , when the British rose to the top tier of the World Cup for the first time after relegation in 1994. He himself only played in the 1: 6 against Kazakhstan when he was substituted on for goalkeeper Ben Bowns a good 14 minutes before the end when the score was 1: 5 .
