Jakob Nikolaus Craigher de Jachelutta , also Jacob Nicolaus Craigher de Jachuletta (* December 17, 1797 in Ligosullo , Friuli - sometimes read out as Liposullo ; † May 17, 1855 in Cormons near Gorizia ) was an Austrian poet and translator .
Live and act
The future poet initially worked as a businessman in his occupation, he became an excellent expert on European languages. When he came to Vienna in 1820 , he quickly came into the immediate vicinity of Clemens Maria Hofbauer and Friedrich Schlegel , whose Catholic mentality strongly influenced him. After he had already published his sensitive poetry in Viennese magazines, Craigher dedicated his volume of poetry, published anonymously in 1828, Poetic Reflections in Freyen Hours to Schlegel; he contributed a preface and an introductory poem.
As the Belgian consul in Trieste (from 1843) Craigher later achieved some prosperity and was even able to travel to the Orient in 1843. Eventually he also died in the region from which he came.
Franz Schubert and Craigher met in 1825. Craigher gave Schubert his own and translated poems to be set to music (D 828, D 833, D 842).
Trivia
