Cormòns (Friulian Cormons , Slovenian KRmin , German Kremaun or Gremaun ) is a municipality with 7297 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) in the eastern Friuli , Italy and capital of Collio -Weinbaugebiets.

history

The origin of the place goes back a long way, as early as 181 BC. BC Cormons was a Roman military station. Later, the Patriarchs of Aquileia brought the spoils from the sack of Grado to safety here. In 1487 the Counts of Gorizia left the castle to the Roman-German King Maximilian I of Habsburg .

On August 12, 1866, after the Third Italian War of Independence, the armistice between the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Italy was signed in Cormons. The signatory was General Karl Moering for Austria and General Agostino Petitti Bagliani di Roreto for Italy.

Until the First World War the place was a garrison of the Austro-Hungarian army . In 1914 the 2nd battalion of the kk Landwehr Infantry Regiment No. 26 was stationed here. In 1918 Cormons came to Italy.

Today Cormons is the economic and cultural center of the Collio. The inhabitants live mainly from viticulture today .

Attractions

The churches of San Giovanni, known as Santa Lucia , the cathedral of Sant'Adalberto and the church of Santa Apollonia are worth seeing . On the edge of the main square is the town's enoteca , where all of the region's wines are on sale.

Festivals

The district of Brazzano lies on the banks of the Judrio and was the last place of imperial rule before the border. Every year in August it is here - even today! - celebrated the "Emperor's Birthday of Franz Joseph ".

Every September, grape festivals and a Renaissance festival are held all over the area .

Town twinning

City partnerships exist with Brda (Slovenia) , Friesach in Carinthia (Austria) and Tokaj in Hungary.
