Jacob Rhenferd
Jacob Rhenferd (born August 15, 1654 in Mülheim an der Ruhr , † October 7, 1712 ) was a German philologist.
Life
Jacob Rhenferd attended school in Moers , learned Hebrew from a relative in Schwerte and then went to Groningen via Hamm . Here he studied with Jacob Alting . In 1678 he became rector of the Latin School in Franeker . Two years later Rhenferd went to Amsterdam to improve his Hebrew with a rabbi. On February 8, 1683 he received the professorship for oriental languages at the University of Franeker , which he held for 30 years. For a long time he was in a scientific dispute with his colleague Vitringa .
Rhenferd remained unmarried.
