Jacob Stickelberger

Jacob Stickelberger (born November 11, 1940 ) is a Bernese songwriter and lawyer .

Life

As a lawyer he represented the Trio Eugster in 1979 , which took legal action against the song Unterhaltigsbrunz (on the LP Mängisch fäges no ) by Tinu Heiniger . In 1989 he took over the defense of Reto B., who raped and killed 21-year-old Elisabeth Duie in Zurich Altstetten on August 17, 1989 . His most famous mandate, however, was connected with the affair of the first Swiss Federal Councilor , Elisabeth Kopp . He defended her husband, the business lawyer Hans W. Kopp - at the time serving as vice-president of the board of directors of a gold and currency trading company accused of money laundering - who was portrayed in media reports in 1988 as a tax fraudster and mafioso .

As a singer-songwriter, he joined the Bern Troubadours from 1966 to 1970 , who were performing at the Die Rampe gallery in Bern at the time. In 1970 and 1971, Stickelberger performed several times with Mani Matter (also a full-time lawyer). After Matter's death in 1972, Stickelberger and Fritz Widmer put on a program from 1973 to 1974 with a crime story written together with Mani Matter and their own chansons. In January 1976 Stickelberger was again on the road with the Bern Troubadours, in autumn 1977 again with Fritz Widmer and a program with the last, previously unpublished Mani Matter chansons. In the 1980s, Jacob Stickelberger occasionally performed solo. Between 1985 and 2000, as he himself says, the chansons and appearances were neglected due to his main job. “That has improved since then.” In 1995 he took part in the anniversary concert 30 Years of the Bern Troubadours and in 2005 40 Years of the Bern Troubadours at the Bern City Theater . Both concerts were recorded live and are available on CD . In 2018 he gave his last concert.

Stickelberger lives in Zollikon near Zurich.
